얼마 전, 딸이 이렇게 물었다.

 

“아빠, 엘리베이터에서 어른들을 만나면 어떤 분들은 ‘안녕하세요’하고 높임말을 써.

나는 아이인데, 왜 그렇게 말하는 거야?”

 

나는 잠시 생각하다가 이렇게 답했다.

 

“그분은 마음에 여유가 많은 분일 거야.

자기를 충분히 사랑할 줄 아는 사람이겠지.”

“Dad, when I meet adults in the elevator, some people say ‘hello’ and use honorifics.

I'm a child, so why do you say that?”

 

I thought for a moment and replied.
