오르한 파묵의 <내 이름은 빨강>이라는 책에 나오는 내가 좋아하는 문장이다.

 

화가는 종이 앞에서는 결국 혼자다.

도와주는 사람도, 위로하는 사람도 없다.

그림은 결국 자기 스스로 그려야 하니까.

 

누가 대신 그려줄 수도, 대신 버텨줄 수도 없다.

인생도 그렇더라, 결국 붓은 내가 쥐고 있다.

결국 혼자여야 진짜 내 색이 나온다.

This is my favorite sentence from Orhan Pamuk's book <My name is Red>.

 

The painter is alone in front of the paper after all.

There is no one to help, no one to console.

You have to draw on your own after all.

 

No one can draw it for you, no one can hold on for you.

Life is like that, after all, you hold the brush.

In the end, you have to be alone to really show your color.
